Making the Classic Peg Game | Free Templates

In this weird year we call 2020, who couldn’t use a game to play to help pass the time. This game has been around for a long time, and I’ve been playing it myself since I was a little kid. My Grandpa used to make these. You might be familiar with it from a truck stop, or certain restaurant chain. If you’ve played it, you’ll know how fun it is, and if you haven’t played it you need to.

This project is a good one to use up some scraps. You can glue up some smaller pieces, or use just about any board you have on hand. You need to cut the piece into an equilateral triangle, then drill some holes in it to fit whatever material you want to use for the pegs. For my games, I used golf tees. They are very inexpensive and come in an assortment of colors. In the build video, I’ll walk you through laying out the hole locations by hand. I spent a bit of time on this step as I thought it was a fun way to do it. The advantage of laying them out this way is that the size of the triangle doesn’t matter. The design will scale to match. If you don’t want to lay them out like this, I do have some printable templates available on the downloads page.

I highly recommend you try this game if you’ve never played it. These would make a great handmade gift for anyone of any age.
